Sewing as a Visual Sound Instrument

This object comes from designers Sound Butter. Although I would say from looking at their portfolio they tend to make more art d’objects than functional products, I have to admit that the above instrument marries some of my favorite things in the best way possible. Music for me always has an accompanying visual and I have a personal affinity for sewing that stems from my childhood (which is probably why I love Ghada Amer).

As an aside, I think the best use for this object would be in a John Cage composition. Thoughts?
